Description

Oct. 9, 1962 J. o. LANGLEY 3,057,367
l- IGJ .lf2 lo /2 /6 zo f United States Patent O 3,057,367 BARBER COMB James O. Langley, 1003 W. 7th St., Mount Pleasant, Tex. Filed Nov. 22, 1960, Ser. No. 71,018 2 Claims. (Cl. 132-161) This invention relates to combs and more particularly to a barbers comb.
`It is an `object of the present invention to provide a barber comb which can be effectively used for guiding the hair into the cutting elements of an electric clipper.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a |barber comb of the above type which is extremely durable, especially elective in operation, and which will not interfere with the normal use of the comb for other purposes.
Other objects of the invention are to provide Ia barber comb bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and eicient in opera-tion.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE l is a plan view of a barber comb made in accordance with the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is a transverse cross sectional View taken along line 2-2 of FIGURE l; and
FIGURE 3 is a fragmentary plan view taken lalong line 3-3 of FIGURE 1.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a barber comb made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a substantially rigid spine portion 12 having a plurality of closely spaced fine teeth 14 of increasing length at one end, such closely spaced teeth 14 extending substantially one-half the length of the spine 12.
The other half of the spine 12 is provided with a plurality of relatively coarse alternately spaced even teeth 16 and relatively coarse cutaway teeth 18, as is clearly shown in FIGURE l. Each of the cutaway teeth is provided with a cutout portion extending fractionally inwardly from the free end thereof toward the spine 12 to define individual shoulders 20. An imaginary line connecting all of the shoulders 20 of the alternately spaced cutaway teeth denes a substantially sine wave form which has the effect of guiding the hair into the cutting elements of the cutter in such a way as to prevent overloading of the cutter and 3,057,367 Patented Oct. 9, 1962 ICC to provide a clean cutting action upon the hair. The coarse teeth also increase in length along the spine, in continuation of the tine teeth.
It will now be recognized that this comb is extremely durable, especially effective for its intended purpose, and also constructed for normal use for regular .barbering procedures.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit Iand scope of the present invention as dened by the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
l. A clipper comb comprising in combination a spine, a plurality of iine teeth at one end of said spine, a plurality of coarse clipper guide teeth at the opposite end of said spine and said guide teeth having hair positioning means guiding hair into a clipper movable relative thereto, said spine comprising a substantially rigid shaft portion extending longitudinally along one edge of said comb, said iine teeth being uniformly spaced apart and of proportionally increasing length from said one end toward said opposite end of said spine, said clipper guide teeth being of generally uniformly spaced apart arrangement increasing in length from said ne teeth toward said opposite end of said comb and said hair positioning means comprising a plurality of shoulders formed by alternately spaced apart ones of said guide teeth, said shoulders forming an imaginary guide line of generally sine Wave form.
2. A clipper comb combination comprising a spine, a plurality of fine teeth at one end of said spine, a plurality of coarse clipper guide teeth at the opposite end of said spine and said guide teeth having hair positioning means guiding hair into a clipper movable relative thereto, said spine comprising a substantially rigid shaft portion extending longitudinally along one edge of said comb, said clipper guide teeth being uniformly spaced apart and said hair positioning means comprising a plurality of shouldders formed by alternately spaced apart ones of said guide teeth, said shoulders forming an imaginary guide line of generally sine wave form.
