Abstract

641,986. Window frames. GENERAL BRONZE CORPORATION. Nov. 18, 1947, No. 30564. Convention date, May 20. [Class 20(iii)] A metal window frame adapted to be assembled on the building site, comprises a hollow rectangular section rail and a channel section rail which are joined at their ends to form a corner of the frame, the web of the channel rail having a portion closing the end of the hollow rail, whilst the latter has an extension closing the end of the channel rail. The hollow rail has a block mounted within its end, the rails being secured together by means passing through the web of the channel rail and engaging the block. The figure shows a top corner of the frame of a metal window sash, the upper rail 10 being of hollow section and the side rail 11 of channel section. The top plate of the hollow rail is extended at 13, the extension fitting between the flanges 14 of the channel rail, whilst the web 15 of the latter closes the end of the hollow rail. A block 20, provided with a tapped hole 23, is held in the end of the hollow rail by detents 22 struck from the top and bottom plates thereof so as to engage in notches 21 cut in opposite sides of the block. To secure the rails together a screw 24 is passed through a hole in the web 15 and screwed into the hole 23 in the block to draw the rails 10 and 11 together.
