Abstract

641,056. Transformers and inductances. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and FRANKLIN, E. B. Aug. 11, 1948, No. 21213. [Class 38 (ii)] An inductive coil winding comprises one or more helically wound sections each having a plurality of layers, the layers being so interconnected that a capacitive by-path exists between at least a part of at least one end layer and at least a part of at least the other end layer. In one embodiment the coil is wound in two half sections A, B of twelve layers each. In each half the first layer is wound with wire from one drum, the second and third layers with wire from another drum, the fourth and fifth layers from the first drum and so on, the 12th layer being wound finally from the first drum. The adjacent ends of the first and second layers of each half are then cross-connected and the adjacent ends of the 11th layer connected together, the free ends of the 12th layer then forming the main coil connections. When winding the layers the winding directions must be such that the layers produce a concerted magnetization. In another embodiment the coil comprises only one half winding section having ten layers and the ends of the first and second layers are connected together, the free ends of the 9th and 10th layers forming the coil connections. In yet another embodiment each layer is wound simultaneously from the two drums beginning at the ends of the layer and working towards the centre where the wires are crossed over and continued to the opposite edges.
