640,259. Girders and columns. FISCHER, H. C., and HIGGINS, A. H. W. April 29, 1947, No. 11423. Convention date, May 3, 1946. [Class 20(ii)] A girder comprises upper and lower chords 2, 4, having nailing grooves 10, 12 on each side of a web 6, which are formed by bending the metal of the chord and the grooves have curved ribs to grip the nails the ends of which, when driven are bent and clinched by the tubular bottom of the groove. The opening of the groove may be flared. The web 6 may be bar stock bent to provide a plurality of struts welded to the chords at the bends.
