Abstract

846,599. Reinforced wooden beams and girders. MICHEL, V., and BORG, G. Jan. 24, 1958 [Jan. 25, 1957], No. 2557/58. Class 20(4) Timbers for constructing beams, web girders or lattice girders are provided with parallel slots 3 at the joints which contain metal plates and are secured by nails driven in alternately from both sides. In embodiments, Fig. 5, the metal plates 261, 271 are continuous in the lattice from top chord 23 to bottom chord 24, wooden lattice bars 26, 27 extending from the underside of the top chord to the upper surface of the lower chord, the plates being inserted in slots in the chords and nailed therein. In embodiments Figs. 7, 8 not shown, the lattice bars are made of metal rods or sheet metal pipes with flattened ends which are inserted in slots in the timber chord and nailed therein as before. The metal parts may be of non-rusting metal.
