639,749. Pressure-relieving devices for fluids. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd. Dec. 24, 1947 No. 34203. [Class 1351 A device for relieving excess pressure in a fluid comprises a frangible diaphragm 12 backed by a hinged support 13 which is held in position by a latch 16a, hinged to the support at 15a and connected at its other end to a subsidiary support 17 housed in an aperture in the main support 13, and when the pressure becomes excessive, it acts through the diaphragm to move the support 17 against the bias of a leafspring 18 and so free the latch 16a, whereupon the support 13 is pushed open and the-now unsupported-diaphragm is ruptured by the fluid. The pressure exerted by spring 18 can be adjusted by a screw 19.
