Abstract
639,677. Hand irons. HOOVER, Ltd. Sept. 4, 1947, No. 24421. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1946. [Class 138 (ii)] A hand iron is provided with an inclined surface 30 extending upwardly and away from the rear edge 45 of the sole plate, for engaging and smoothing the work when the iron is moved backwards. The inclined surface may be triangular as shown in the bottom view, Fig. 3, and may be surrounded by another surface 31 inclined at a steeper angle, the two surfaces being joined by substantially vertical walls or ridges 41, 42. The member 16 comprising the two inclined surfaces may be secured as shown in Fig. 4, a lip 33 thereon engaging a recess in the rear of the sole plate 12, and a screw 35 securing the member 16 to a bracket 36 which may be welded to the rear end of the overhanging cover-plate 14. As shown in Fig. 4, the iron may be stood on end, resting on the rear of the member 16 and on a projection 23 formed on the handle. Preferably the sole plate is heated but the inclined surface is unheated.
