Abstract

639,511. Vacuum closures. ROGERS, Ltd., H. B., and PARKER, B. V. Aug. 9, 1948, No. 20978. [Class 125(iii)] A vacuum closure for a standard jamjar 7 with beaded rim 7a at its mouth, comprises a glass disc 4 with a peripheral flange 4b having an annular groove, conforming with the rim of the jar mouth, and having a depending portion 4a fitting within the mouth of the jar. A sealing ring 5 is received in the annular groove. During sterilizing, the disc is held in position by a spring clip 6 or the like. The under surface of the disc may be recessed as shown, or may be flat to reduce the air space in the jar in which case the upper surface is correspondingly recessed, and may be provided with a central raised portion which is engaged by the spring clip.
