Abstract

639,418. Pneumatic conveyers. COLBURN, R. R. July 25, 1947. No. 20045. Convention date, March 30, 1945. [Class 78 (i)] A device for measuring and feeding batches of dry aggregates to a cement gun or the like consists of a pocket-wheel which is fed with the aggregates from a hopper, the batches being discharged from the pockets by a blast of compressed air to a grooved horizontal rotor from which they are fed by compressed air to the point of utilization. A hopper 12, Fig. 5, feeds aggregates to pockets 43 of a pocket-wheel 15 through an arcuate slot 24 in the bottom plate 23 of the hopper. The pocket-wheel is rotated slowly so that each pocket is filled in turn and then passes under an upper rubber plate 49 which seals the top. An aperture 32 in a lower rubber sealing plate 51 is situated diametrically opposite to the arcuate slot 24 and above this opens an inlet 26 for compressed air which serves, as a pocket 43 curves over the aperture 32, to expel the eontents of the pocket through a conduit 31, Fig. 4, into a horizontal feeding chamber. This chamber is provided with a loosely fitting agitating rotor 13 having a series of rectilinear grooves 33 into which increments of the batches fall and are conveyed round at a relatively high speed. A compressed air inlet 37 opens near the bottom of one side of the chamber and serves to blow out the aggregates into the outlet 41 to the point of use.
