Abstract
639,201. Spinning and winding yarn. HAYS, J. H. March 10, 1947, No. 6694. [Class 120 (ii)] A spinning machine of the kind wherein drawing, spinning and winding are sequentially performed, for a given length of roving, has its drafting section vertically movable in relation to the machine frame, means being provided for moving the section vertically as the bobbin building mechanism moves vertically to build the bobbin. The shaft 33, connected to the main drive 103, rotates a cam 32 to oscillate a building mechanism 28 which, through chains 25, 22, reciprocates a bar 24 and the ring rail rods 20, the usual pawl and ratchet effecting the upward " gain " for bobbin building. The upward motion of the ring rail, through a chain 56 gradually advances a rod 51 carrying microswitches 54 which are opened and closed by dogs on the reciprocating rod 24 so to operate a motor 43 which, through a chain 421, shaft 42 and worm wheel 46, effects the rotation of jacks 17 to lift the drafting section 3 of the frame upwardly with the upward " gain " of the ring rail, the vertical movement of the drafting section being controlled by links 16. Limit switches are operated by an arm on the draft section to open the motor circuit at the top and bottom limits of motion. The main drive 103 also operates the draft 120 which, through a clutch 121, drives the highest speed roller of the six-roll drafting section the gear train including gears on pivoted " extensible links 117 to allow for uninterrupted drive to the roller 122 throughout its upward motion. The roller 122 through gear trains 129, 1291 drives the other rollers of the drafting section. Fixed to the ring rail, and partaking of its vertical motions, are balloon arresters 83 extending from a rotatable shaft 84 which allows for adjustment of the fingers 83 and also for them to be turned to a vertical position during doffing. The pigtail guides 7 are mounted upon a rod 91 carried in brackets 92, slidable upon rods 93, the brackets being attached to counterweighted arms 94. After the ring rail brackets 11 have risen a predetermined amount, they contact the brackets 92 which thereafter move the guides 7 in unison with the ring rails. A ratchet arrangement is included whereby the operative may manually change the position whereat the guides 7 begin to move with the ring rail. The last drafting roll 122 is cleared by a felt-covered roller 130, mounted in a housing 133, and by a felt strip 131 pressed against it by weighted arms 134; the top roller 128 being cleared by a felt strip 132. In order that the draft section may be returned to its lowermost position, a parallel circuit to the motor 43 is arranged, so that the manual closing of a switch will energise the motor, in reverse, thus lowering the jacks until the lower limit switch opens to stop the motor. The yam guide roller 140 is grooved to allow passage of yarn and to restrict size of upper balloon.
