Abstract
637,709. Power-meters. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and CARFRAE, W. J. April 27, 1948, No. 11544. [Class 37] A wattmeter 6, Fig. 1, has its voltage coil fed with the rectified voltage developed by an A.C. generator 2 and its current coil fed with a current, taken from a shunt 7, in the lead to the generator field 3, and proportional to the current in the field, so that the wattmeter indicates, by the degree of rotation of one of the coils, the maximum power that can be taken from the generator. A further wattmeter 10, Fig. 2, may be fed with the voltage and current delivered by the generator 2, and its indication mechanically combined with that of the meter 6 to give an indication of the difference between the power available and the power being taken. The current coil of the wattmeter 10 may be supplied from a summation transformer fed from current transformers 9 on all leads from the generator, Fig. 3 (not shown). In a further modification, the wattmeter 10 may be replaced by two wattmeters each responsive to one phase of the supply, Fig. 4 (not shown).
