Abstract

In the case hardening of steel in a fused cyanide bath in which copper is present, the inhibiting action of the copper is prevented by the addition to the bath of an iron compound or metallic iron in a finely divided state. The iron may be added alone or mixed with the regenerator salt for the bath in an amount not exceeding 10 per cent. Suitable compounds are ferric oxide or potassium ferrocyanide. Specifications 359,483 and 424,003 are referred to.
