Abstract
636,796. Air and steam turbine plant. INTERNATIONAL COMBUSTION, Ltd., and DAVIS, R. F. May 6, 1948, No. 12500: [Class 110(iii)] An electric generator P is driven by a hot air turbine L for which compressed air is supplied by a pump D driven by a steam turbine C. The air is heated in a furnace N after passing through a coil J in the furnace flue and an exhaust-gas heat-exchanger K. The air exhausted from the turbine L passes, in part, to the furnace N and, in part, to a feed-water heater M. Steam generated in boiler A is superheated in coil B and used in turbine C. The exhaust passes to condensor G and the condensate is forced by a pump H through an inter-stage cooler of the pump D. It then passes to the feed-water heater M and a heater E in the boiler flue. Air for the boiler furnace is heated at F in the boiler fiue. In starting, the turbine L is byepassed at Q until the steam turbine C is running at speed to provide sufficient air for operating the turbine L. The supply of fuel to furnace N may be automatically regulated in response to the temperature of the outgoing air.
