Abstract

[Class 140] In a padding machine having two horizontal rollers 1, 2, Fig. 1, means are provided to guide the fabric along a spiral-like course in which the fabric passes at least twice between the rollers. The fabric 5 is guided by selvedge guiding rollers 10 in a vertical plane at one side of the spiral-like course and enters the central space within the course over a horizontal guide roller 6 and is deviated by a roller or bar 8 arranged at 45 degrees to effect the course indicated by arrows over guide rollers 9. After the final passage between rollers 1, 2 the fabric enters a mechanical folding device 11. The rollers may form the dye trough with liquid-tight flanges 4 as described in Specification 633,006. In a modification, an additional pair of rollers may be provided on the opposite side of the spiral, and the fabric may pass through both sets three times. In a further modification, Fig. 3, the bottom 12 of the machine is formed into small capacity dye troughs. When the fabric passed between the rollers 1, 2 and 1<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>1</SP> has great thickness, dye would overflow into these troughs. The dye is supplied to the dye troughs by pipes 15, 15<SP>1</SP> from a reservoir 14.
