1,237,596. Steam-treating webs. ARTOS DR.-ING. MEIER-WINDHORST K.G. 19 Feb., 1969 [20 Feb., 1968], No. 8912/69. Heading D1L. A textile web in a sealed steam-treatment chamber is passed in a loosely folded condition through a U-shaped guide path, the base of which comprises driven supporting rollers, and thence through a spreading device and past means for regulating the tension of the web, including a pair of web guides. The guide path may be provided with lateral guides and/or devices for supporting the middle part of the web. A heating zone may be provided upstream of the guide path and a steam-tight transition device may be provided at the outlet of the chamber. Two or more adjacent webs may be treated, additional web guides and an adjustable spreading device being provided. As shown, a web 1 is passed via an entry lock 2 of a steam treatment chamber 3, a preheating zone 4, a folding device 5 and stationary walls 6 (between which the web is piled up) to a U-shaped guide path having lateral guides 8 and, the base of which is formed by driven supporting rollers 9 and at the entrance to which the folded web is centrally supported above and below by a movable rail 7 and a stationary stressed strap 11 respectively. The web is then passed via a spreading device 12, tension regulating means 13, a pair of web guides 15 and a steam-tight transition device 16 to a washing device 17.
