Abstract
636,383. Discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 7, 1946, No. 7144. Convention date, March 10, 1945. [Class 39 (i)] A thermionic electrode for an electric discharge device in which the gas pressure is less than 25 mms., comprises a helical wire coil 7, the dimensions of which are so arranged, according to the gas pressure, that a glow takes place within it on starting. The coil may be over-wound with smaller wire and encloses a core 10 of activating material within all except its end turns. If the tube is filled with argon at 3¢ mm. pressure the internal coil size should be between 15 and 40 mils diameter, the coil turns spacing not exceeding 5 mils. The leadin wires 3 and 4 are of the axial " seal " wire type, but the inner lead 12 is of de-oxidised copper which may be nickel-plated.
