Abstract
Biological or other acid sensitive preparations containing not more than 1 per cent of a deleterious electrolyte are refined by passage through a duplex ion exchanger comprising two sets of salt activated resin particles, one set serving as an anion and the other as a cation exchanger, so that the said electrolyte is replaced by a harmless or beneficial salt. According to the example, a mixture of 52 parts by volume of a cation exchange resin derived from a polyhydric phenol and formaldehyde and 48 parts by volume of an anion exchange resin derived from an aromatic or aliphatic amine and formaldehyde, both previously activated with sodium chloride solution, placed in a suitable column provides such an ion exchanger which, when spent, is regenerated by the passage therethrough of a substantially dissociated salt solution such as sodium chloride solution. Deleterious electrolyte in excess of 1 per cent is first removed by dialysis.ALSO:Biological or other acid sensitive preparations containing not more than 1 per cent of a deleterious electrolyte are refined by passage through a duplex ion exchanger comprising two sets of salt activated resin particles, one set serving as an anion and the other as a cation exchanger, so that the said electrolyte is replaced by a harmless or beneficial salt.
