Abstract
636,052. Fluid heater cleaners. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and HANDOLL, P. G. July 1, 1947, No. 17294. [Class 99(ii)] A nozzle tube 1, which may be rotated, is telescopically arranged with a feed tube 12 and advanced by driving-means, such as an electric motor 48, from a retracted position over a substantial distance whilst discharging cleaning fluid the flow of which is controlled by a valve 7 through a member, which may be a rotatable cam 191, having alternative positions corresponding to the open and closed positions of the valve and which in turn is operated by a striker, such as a pin 210, movable with the tube 1. The striker may be arranged, during the initial movement of the nozzle, to engage the side of. slot 203 of the cam and continued advancement rotates the latter to disengage the roller 198 of the spring- biassed tappet 192 from the recess 201; the roller engages in a recess 200, and the tappet operates an auxiliary valve of the valve 7 to admit fluid through supply pipe 6 to tube 12. Towards the end of the retracted position the pin again engages the cam-slot which operates the tappet to close the main supply valve. The tube 1, together with the motor, may be mounted on a carriage 17 adapted to run on a track 18, movement of the former being effected by the motor operating, through gearing to the rack 41 and pinion 40. Rollers 14 arranged in a bracket 13 may support the tube 1. Figs. 2, 4 and 5. There may be a gear 77, driven from a gear 80 of the shaft 44 and keyed to a hub 74 supported by the carriage, to rotate tube 1 through frictional engagement of the spherical part 82, secured to the former, with packing rings 83, 84, Fig. 7- Limit switches 105, 109 which form part of an electrical circuit may be adapted .automatically to effect, through the motor, the reversal and stopping movements of the movable parts of the device. There may be a number of cleaners operating in sequence. Specification 533,609 is referred to.
