Abstract

635,558. Capping cables. BUTLER, D. V., and AVIATION & ENGINEERING PROJECTS, Ltd. Oct. 8, 1946, No. 29941. [Class 109] A cable end fitting comprising an internally tapered member 2 surrounding the cable end 8 with a deformable sleeve 1 shaped so as to fit closely therebetween is provided with means engageable with the member 2 for causing the sleeve to be forced towards the narrower end of the member 2 and being deformed to fill the spaces between the cable surface and the interior of the member 2. The sleeve may be made of a ductile metal such as aluminium. The engageable pressure inducing means may comprise an internally threaded cap member 4 or an externally threaded plug received on the correspondingly threaded end of the socket member 2, a steel cupshaped thrust-washer 7 being preferably interposed between the member 4 and the sleeve. The sleeve may be constituted by two tapered half sections. The members 4 and 2 may be locked in position such as by means of a split pin. Either of these members may be provided with means for attaching the cable to a support such as a lug 5 with an eye 6, or a hook. The sleeve may taper towards both ends and may be provided with longitudinal slits.
