635,376. Feeding materials to mixing machines. PRICE, D. G., and GARDNER & SONS (GLOUCESTER), Ltd., W. Aug. 14, 1947, No. 22655. [Class 86] [Also in Group XXX] A machine for mixing a plurality of powdered or granular substances comprising a chamber 1 with stirrers 5 mounted on a shaft 2 is fed by means of sifters so that each substance is widely distributed in the mixer. Sprays a r e provided for colouring, sweetening, &c., the substances individually as they fall into the mixer. The horizontal cross-sectional area of the chamber 1 is divided by a plate 12 and the two upper compartments so formed are provided with helical brushes 7, 8 and sifter screens 9, 10. Vibrating hoppers 15, 16 feed granular materials to the sifters, and the brushes ensure that each material is widely distributed in the mixer. Holes 27 below the sifter screens and above the mixer blades are fitted with sprays, so that each substance may be sprayed independently before reaching the mixer. Particles too large to pass through the sifters are rejected separately at the end of the machine. Specifications 551,590, [Group XXX], 631,036 and 631,497, [Group XXX], are referred to.
