Abstract

634,807. Cutting sheet material. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and HENSHAW, J. N. July 5, 1947, No. 17800. [Class 31 (i)] [Also in Group XXIII] In a method of preparing and assembling for storage, sheets of abrasive-coated sheet material, a length of the material is acted upon by cutting means to form cuts 9 which are spaced apart lengthwise of the material and extend substantially across the width thereof, but leave narrow unsevered pieces 13 connecting together adjacent sheets formed by the cuts. In the example, diamond-shaped sheets connected together by unsevered pieces 13 adjacent the edges of the material are formed by passing a length 'of material between a pair of rolls 3, 7, one (3) of which carries a helical blade 5 having notches 11 near its ends, and then winding the partially separated sheets into a roll 15. Guides 12 position the material relative to the cutting roll. Specification 536,979, [Group XXIII], is referred to.
