Abstract

634,319. Vehicle wheels. DEMETRIADES, G. A. March 17, 1947, No. 7319. Addition to 615,182. [Class 144 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] In a wheel or like rotary body, the hub 10 is mounted on bearings 12 on a stub shaft 14 and is provided with two screw threads 26, 30 of opposite hand on to which are screwed a member 24 carrying a rim 22 and a hub cap 34 carrying a flange 36. The hub 10 has a flange 16 to which a brake drum 18 is attached by means of screws 20. The rotation of member 24 relative to the hub 10 in one direction is prevented by engagement of complementarily tapered surfaces 28 on the brake drum 18 and member 24. Relative rotation in the opposite direction effects closer engagement of complementary surfaces 38 on members 36, 24 and a tendency for member 34 to screw further on to shaft 10 by virtue of the screwthreads 26, 30 being of opposite hand. In a double wheel assembly, Fig. 2, rims 22 are carried by members 24, 25 screwed on to hub 10 and having complementary surfaces 40. A member 11 bolted to hub 10 has a screw-thread 30 of opposite hand to thread 26 on to which is screwed a member 34 carrying a flange 36 engaging a surface 38 on member 25. Brake drum 18 and end cap 34 limit axial movement of the wheels as in the previous embodiment.
