Abstract
634,292. Type-printing telegraphy. PELLE, P. April 23, 1945, No. 10142. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1944. [Class 40 (iii)] In a regenerator for stop-start telegraph signals of two polarities, a valve oscillator starts to oscillate on the receipt of a start signal and causes short D.C. impulses to be fed to the line relay at the theoretical centre of each received signal impulse, the received signal being used to determine the polarity re-transmitted. An incoming start signal of negative polarity on line L1 energizes coil 1 of the polarized differential relay RE and moves its armature i1, i2 to contacts t1, t2. At t1, the oscillator O is caused to oscillate with a period equal to a unitary signal element, and the train of oscillations produced is passed to a triodepentode flip-flop circuit I via a phase-changing capacity-resistance net 5, 6 and 7. The pentode produces a square-wave pulse at the peak of each oscillation received, i.e. at the theoretical centre of each received signal impulse. These pulses are fed to the line-relay R via a staticrelay network 11, 12, 13, 14, the biassing of the static-relays by the received signal determining the direction in which the transmitting armature i3 moves. The pentode output pulses are also fed to an impulse counter CI where they charge condenser 3 until atthe seventh (or stop) pulse the grid potential causes the tube to discharge via coil 2 of the differential relay RE, thereby returning the armatures to their rest contacts r1, r2 and locking the oscillator O, ready for the next character.
