Abstract
634,005. Blasting-detonators. WRIGHT, H. R., MARTYN, R. W., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 1, 1948, No. 6423. [Class 9 (i)] A detonating explosive booster for use under conditions of high hydrostatic pressure comprises a thickwalled rigid cup 1 into which is screwed a second thick-walled cup 3 containing an explosive pellet primer 6 of high melting point such as cyclonite. An axial channel in the primer accommodates a thinwalled detonator tube of aluminium into which is compressed a charge 10 of lead azide mixed with lead styphnate and aluminium and a charge 11 of cyclonite or other explosive with a melting-point above 180 C. A rubber disc 8 is placed in the cup 3 and a gasket 9 forms a seal between the two cups. To facilitate assembly, flats are provided on the cup 1 and projections 13 on the cup 3. The cup 1 has an external recess 5 forming a weakening of the end wall which will rupture on detonation of an explosive in its proximity. Both cups may be of steel.
