Abstract

633,751. Clips. THOMSON, W. M. Feb. 11, 1948, No. 3975. [Class 44] [Also in Group XIV A clip, shown in two different forms, for attaching a cable tray or the like 21 to a structural member comprises jaws 13, 15 sprung apart for the introduction of the structural member, one of the jaws having a slot to pass a screw 18 securing the tray 21, the slot extending beyond the flange so that the screw can pass cross-wise of the clip without fouling the flange. In the form of Figs. 1 and 2, applied to a structural member 10 having a flange 11, the flat lower jaw is formed with a recess 16 to receive a nut 19, and an up-turned end 14 to locate the clip in position. The upper and lower jaws are joined by an arcuate piece 12 of greater diameter than the width between the jaws when sprung apart to engage the flange 11. In a modification the upper jaw is longer and formed with a slot so that the securing bolt can pass between and retain the jaws in tight engagement with the structural member. Separate bolts may be used to secure the tray and to close the jaws as shown in Fig. 7 illustrating another form applied to a structural member 22 having a bulb flange 25. The upper jaw has a flat portion 26 and is slotted to receive the screw 18 which forces the jaws into gripping engagement with the bulb. The slot 17 and recess 16 is long enough to contain the head of a second screw 31 having a nut securing the lid 29 of the tray.
