633,723. Gas turbine plant for jet-propulsion. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE GENERALE DE MECANIQUE APPLIQUEE S.I.G.M.A. April 2, 1947, No. 8976. Convention date, April 2, 1946. [Class 110(iii)] A gas turbine plant for jet propulsion, Fig. 1, comprises in one group a compressor 1, a combustion chamber 3 and a turbine 2 delivering to a propulsion jet 5 and in a second group, a pistoned combustion-product generator 6 and a turbine 7 driving a blower 8 which delivers air to a propulsion jet 8a. The groups have alternative connections such that (a) part of the air delivered by compressor 1 is used to supercharge the generator 6 and the exhaust of the turbine 7 is delivered to the combustion chamber 3 where it is re-heated by burners 34; (b) the turbine 7 is bye-passed and the generator connected directly to the combustion chamber 3; or (c) the generator 6 takes in air from the atmosphere at 27 and delivers directly to a propulsion jet 29 and the set 1, 3, 5 operates independently. In another plant, Fig. 2, a generator 41 delivers either to a jet 52 or to a high-pressure turbine 38 which drives a low-pressure compressor 35. Intermediate and low-pressure turbines 39, 40 drive independently low-pressure and intermediate compressors 37, 36. Fuel is burnt in a combustion chamber 44 with the air delivered by the compressor 37 and the exhaust of the turbine 38 is re-heated in a combustion chamber 54a within the chamber 44. Part of the delivery of the compressor 35 passes directly to a propulsion jet 43. The generator 41 may receive air from the intermediate compressor 36, or from the atmosphere through a valve 47. The gas from the generator 41 may go to the turbine 38 or directly to a jet 52. In a third plant, Fig. 3, the generator 6 receives air from the delivery of the compressor 1 through valve 26 or from an intermediate point through a valve 64. The generator discharges to a turbine 7, and the exhaust from this turbine goes either to a second turbine 72 and then to the combination chamber 3 or directly to the combustion chamber. The turbines 71, 72 drive compressors 81, 82, which deliver air to a common propulsion jet 8a1. Specification 599,974 is referred to.
