632,690. Seaming non - metallic sheets. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., HYTCH, A. H. M., and GOUGH, S. W. April 10, 1947, No. 9495. [Class 42 (i)] [Also in Groups IX and XI] Electrodes for welding thermoplastic films by radio - frequency electrical heating comprise a pressure member faced with resilient material covered with a sheet of metallic gauze, and a jig member having a backing of insulating material having secured thereto a narrow upstanding band of metal conforming' to the shape of the weld to be formed, there being means for connecting the metal portions of each member to a source of electrical energy. The pressure member 1 comprises a rigid backing 12 and a pad 2 of resilient material such as natural rubber of suitable hardness, faced with gauze 3 of fine brass or copper wire. The latter may have a covering of a gauze of wire filaments interwoven with cotton, rayon or nylon. The jig member may be constructed by embedding a copper or aluminium strip 4 in a block 13 of plaster of Paris or other cement, which may be treated with a thermosetting resin or be reinforced by layers of fabric; or it may consist of a wooden base, faced with copper gauze and having a metal strip secured thereon. Means 15 are provided for connection to the power supply.
