Abstract
630,542. Centrifugal pumps; stuffing-box substitutes. LINDE AIR PRODUCTS CO. Dec. 18, 1947, No. 33508. Convention date, Jan. 9. [Classes 110(i) and 122(v)] In a multi-stage pump having at least two stages, a shaft bearing is supported by a partition which separates the stages, the means for locating the bearing radially and axially also providing interstage fluid sealing. The inner race of the bearing 29 is clamped on the pump shaft 24 between a collar 25 and an impeller 15. The outer race is secured between rings which are screwed into a recess 38 in an interstage partition 13. Extensions 40 and 41 of the rings provide interstage sealing by covering the space between the inner and outer races. The bearing may have one or more rows of balls or it may comprise rollers. The bearing is run without lubricant but in contact with the liquefied gas being pumped; to avoid corrosion it may be of stainless steel.
