[Class 112] Thread-cutters and thread-end holders.-A device comprising fixed jaws and a knife, arranged to grip and cut the thread as work is removed from the machine upwardly and in the general direction of the feed, is provided in a shoe sewing-machine ; its form may be such that the thread can be cut close to the shoe without chance of injuring the shoe. In the embodiment shown a block 24, adapted to be fixed to the machine frame by screws, carries jaws 20, 22 inclined downwardly, rearwardly and in the direction of feed, and a knife blade 34 inclined forwardly of the direction of feed ; the blade is placed nearer to the stitching devices than the jaws, and its bent shank is notched to be clamped under the heads of the screws 26 which secure the jaws. On completion of the seam, the shoe is withdrawn in the direction of feed, and then upwardly and forwardly to bring the thread into the jaws and over the blade ; it may be placed against the bend of the knife shank and the cutting action produced by rolling it downwards against this abutment, so that the thread is cut close to the shoe without the possibility of damage to the shoe.
