Abstract
628,373. Machines with permanent magnets. MAGNETOS LUCIFER SOC. ANON. Sept. 29, 1947, No. 26273. Convention date, Oct. 28, 1946. [Class 35] In a cycle-lighting or other magneto having armature pole pieces forming annular passages through which the magnet pole shoes pass, means are provided to cause progressive variation of flux through the armature when the magnet pole shoes move away from or approach the inlet of the annular passages. Figs. 1 and 2 show a wound armature having a core 5 of H- shaped laminations. The lower plate 7 is formed so that each of its extremities 8 is parallel to the face 9 of core 5. The pole shoes 1 of a magnet 2 rotate through the annular passages formed between the elements 8, 9 and have a cross-section which tapers towards leading and trailing edges. A magnetic shunt or shunts 11 may be arranged between the lateral edges of members 8 or 9. Other means may be used to obtain progressive flux variation ; such as indexing the ends of the annular passages or sloping the lateral edges of the extremities 8.
