Abstract

627,244. Knitting-machines. COTTON, Ltd., W., and MACDONALD, W. G. March 14, 1945, No. 6368. [Class 74 (ii)] A lug 1, by which a carrier rod 2 of a straight bar machine is driven by a driving bolt driven from the tie bar, has a recess 3, and a plate 5 is pivoted in a slot 4 in the lug and is held partly protruding in the recess by a spring 8 so that when the rod engages a stop the plate yields to the bolt and absorbs the shock. The lug is described in connection with mechanism for introducing carriers into operative position from the rest position beyond the selvedge. This mechanism comprises pegging-out bolts carried in a box which is slidable on shafts, and patterning mechanism by which the pegging- out bolts are selected for operating the required carriers. The drum of the patterning mechanism is keyed to slide along a shaft which is racked at appropriate intervals to effect further selection by means of racking mechanism.
