Abstract

627,120. Flexible pipe couplings. K. A. C. Ltd., and LOVE, J. Jan. 23, 1948, No. 11170/47. [Class 99(i)] A flexible pipe coupling containing no inflammable material comprises mutually perpendicular joints 2 arranged as a Hookes joint disposed around a space 3 traversed by a bellows member 4 forming a pressure-tight connection between the pipes 9' the joint pipes passing through slots 5 in each half coupling to allow limited axial movement. The pins screw into a gimbal ring 6 which masks the gap between the half coupling. The ends of the bellows members are gripped between mating conical surfaces provided respectively on inner and outer members 7 and 8 of each half coupling. Alternatively, the bellows ends are brazed into circular grooves formed in the members 7. Other means for gripping the ends of the bellows members are also described.
