[Class 100 (ii)] In a modification of the invention of the parent Specification, the ink mill consists of a roller and a stationary surface extending about the peripheral surface thereof, the roller being constantly driven and its surface being smooth to effect a continuous working action on ink between itself and the stationary surface. Ink delivered to a hopper 2, Figs. 1, 4 and 5, from a pipe 17 is milled by passing between a driven roller 1 closing the mouth of the hopper and a flange 4 forming an extension of the wall of the hopper towards which the roller rotates or being adjustably mounted on the wall to alter its clearance with the roller according to the ink used. The ink is distributed to an inking roller 6 in a fountain 5, or into the reservoir of an ink pump mechanism, the ink level in which is kept constant by means of a float operating a control valve in the supply pipe, as described in the parent Specification. The roller 1 may be driven selectively, by a sliding gear, from the printing machine or from a separate motor, so that the milling apparatus can be worked after the press is shut down. Ink in the fountain can be returned to the hopper for re-working by a screw conveyer 22, Fig. 4, or the hopper and roller 1 can be mounted on blocks 24, Fig. 5, sliding on guide posts 25, whereby they can be lowered to a position in which the ink in the fountain can flow back into the hopper.
