Abstract
626,189. Electrostatic precipitation. AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO., Inc. July 10, 1947, No. 18261. Convention date, Sept. 3, 1940. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] An electric gas cleaner has an interstitial dielectric filter medium extending across the direction of gas flow, charging electrodes of opposite electrical sign in physical contact with the medium, and an ionizer arranged close to but in advance of the upstream face of the filter medium. The filter medium may comprise a plurality of superimposed creped layers of matted fibrous material, such as described in U.S.A. Specification 1,897,976, or felted wool, canton flannel, organdy, voile, rayon, matted glass or woven glass. The charging electrodes may be of open mesh woven wire or composed of laterally spaced rods or wires, and may be disposed on one or both sides of the medium or with electrodes of different sign on opposite sides of the medium. The filter medium may be supported across a gas duct between frames comprising series of intermeshing metal or plastic fingers. The filter medium may be backed as a support by a corrugated metal or plastic screen. Specification 499,914, [Group XXVIII], is referred to.
