Abstract

646,577. Electrostatic precipitation. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Aug. 26, 1947, No. 23516. Convention date, Aug. 27, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] A removable electrode cell unit for an electrostatic precipitator comprises a number of parallel walls 22 of insulating material coated on both sides with a conductive layer, the layers on alternate walls being connected together. The ends of the insulating walls 22 are bent in opposite directions, and riveted to supporting sheets 25 of similar material. The conductive layer 24 on both sides of each sheet extends over one end only, leaving the other end clear, the clear ends alternating in successive sheets. The rivets 26 through the upper coated ends are interconnected by wires 27 which are grounded to the cabinet, and the rivets through the lower coated ends by wires 28 to the positive of the D.C. supply. The insulating walls are flexible, to allow the units to be collapsed, as in Fig. 3, and the precipitator is divided into compartments each of which contains a cell unit which may be removed and discarded when the collector plates become dirty, and replaced by a new unit.
