[Class 6(i)] Relates to manure distributers of the type wherein a trailer vehicle is provided with an end, less conveyer 16, 17 feeding manure rearwardly to spreader devices 24, 25, 26. According to the invention the conveyer is driven from the tractor power take-off through a pawl and ratchet mechanism. The spreader devices comprise a pair of cutter drums 24, 25 which shred and feed manure to the rotary beater 26. These devices are journalled in a framework mounted at the open rear end of the vehicle, and are connected by chain and sprocket drives to a transverse shaft 40 driven, through bevel gearing 38, from a longitudinal shaft 34 extending along the centre of the vehicle beneath the conveyer. The front end of the shaft 34 is coupled through a clutch 33 and universal joints 32, 30b, to the power takeoff of the towing vehicle. The front of the trailer includes a sub-frame 11 on which the front bearings of the shaft 34 are mounted. This sub-frame carries a retractable wheeled jack 64 which supports the trailer when not being towed. The endless conveyer comprises chains entrained over sprockets 18, 19 and interconnecied by slats 16. The rear sprockets 18 are mounted on a shaft 60 which is rotated step-by-step through the action of pawl and ratchet mechanism 61, 62, 63, operated by a crank rod 57 pivoted to a sprocket 51 driven from the shaft 28 of one of the cutter drums 25. The point of attachment of the crank rod is adjustable radially on the sprocket 51.
