624,084. Packing for fragile objects. NICOLLE, C. April 29, 1946, No. 12828. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1945. [Classes 18 and 94(i)] A packing of plastic material for fragile tapered objects comprises a recessed sheet having at the tapering end of the recess a clearance or cut to facilitate the removal of the contents. The sheet may have a depression 4 at the end of each recess 2, or the depressions may be joined to form a continuous channel. The sheet may be cut away to clear the ends of the objects 1. The contents may be protected by ribbing or protuberances on the recesses 2, and a further sheet similarly recessed may be secured to the first sheet to enclose the contents. This second sheet may wholly or partially cover the contents and may have notches to facilitate its tearing as the contents are removed. The second sheet may be applied when the contents are in position or may be slotted or discontinuous to enable the contents to be fitted in after the sheets have been secured together. The packing may be double ended and may have a cut out portion 18 in the lower sheet permitting the portion corresponding to the tapered end of the objects contained therein to be hinged back to enable them to be entered between the two sheets. The entry of the objects may also be facilitated by slots in the lower sheet. Alternatively, a double-ended packing may be made in two halves forming an upper and a lower sheath encasing the contents. The top sheet may be transparent.
