Abstract
623,977. Generating combustion products under pressure. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. June 16, 1947, No. 15798. Convention, date, June 24, 1946. [Class 51 (i)] In a gas turbine plant, in which the annular combustion chamber is defined by conical walls and has an annular series of nozzles 37 in its up-stream end wall, the primary air is admitted from the surrounding air duct in a manner to produce vortical movement about the axes of the nozzles. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the combustion chamber looking up-stream. In the inner and outer walls 31, 32 of the chamber there are longitudinal rows 38, 39 of perforations for admitting air which are located opposite alternate spaces between the nozzles. The air passing through them produces vortical movements in opposite directions about adjacent nozzles. Single rows of perforations may be used in place of the double rows shown.
