Abstract

621,827. Air-cooling systems. GARRETT CORPORATION. Jan. 8, 1947, No. 638. Convention date, April 22, 1946. [Class 29] [Also in Group XXVI] In an air-cooling unit, particularly for aircraft, shown in plan, the air to be cooled is admitted under pressure at 15 and compressed in a rotary compressor 10 from which it passes as shown by the arrows through a heat exchanger 11 and a duct 26 to an air motor or turbine 12 in which it expands and passes to the cabin through a duct 36. The air motor drives the compressor through a shaft 51, from which a power take-off 54 drives a fan 42 drawing ambient air through the tubes of the heat exchanger 11 to cool the compressed air. A bye-pass duct 33 controlled by a valve connects the inlet and outlet pipes 15, 36 to regulate the temperature of the air. The fan 42 rotates in a duct 39 with a filler member 43, which supports the fan bearings 50. The unit is mounted by brackets 60, 61.
