Abstract
621,818. Loading and unloading. DOUGHERTY, C. E., and MINOR, E. E. Oct. 30, 1946, No. 32289. [Class 78 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXIII] In apparatus for loading and unloading cargo to or from a ship's hold of the kind in which a monorail is supported on a frame above the hold and extends to the side of 'the ship adjacent the dock or pier side, the frame is adjustable in size whereby it may be fitted over holds of different sizes and the monorail is adjustably supported from the frame whereby its position relative to the hold and to the dock or pier side may be varied. In the embodiment shown, cargo is transferred from the hold 7 to a pier 9 by an overhead traveller 33 mounted on a track 25. The track is secured by clamps 26 to a frame 16 mounted on standards 15, the sides of the frame comprising telescopic members whereby the frame may be adjusted according to the size of the hold. Two of the standards 15 are secured to the deck by straps 19, Fig. 5, which are secured to the standards at 20 and engaged at their lower ends by bolts 23 carried by a permanent part 24 of the deck.
