[Class 44] [Also in Group XXXVI] A clamping device comprises an externally threaded sleeve b adapted to surround the member a to be clamped and having two or more gaps c therein, into each of which is inserted a gripping member d, and an internally threaded collar f adapted to screw over the sleeve and having its bore flared at g to form a sharp edge, whereby when it is screwed home its edge shears off the projecting parts of the gripping members and the flared part of the bore forces the gripping members inward to produce a clamping effect. The gripping members d are suitably shaped to fit around the member a and are preferably made of wood with the grain running parallel to the axis of the device.
