Abstract
621,242. Sowing seeds; treating seeds. PARISH, W. R. Feb. 10, 1947, No. 3859. [Classes 6(i) and 58] A method of sowing seeds comprises coating the seeds with a magnetic powder, such as magnetic iron oxide, picking up the seeds magnetically and subsequently releasing them at predetermined intervals to be deposited in the ground. The seeds are coated with gum acacia, and then agitated with magnetic powder, and finally allowed to dry. The sowing device comprises a drum E within which are mounted solenoids A, B arranged radially and energised through contacts on the axle F. The end of each solenoid is flush with the drum and is of such a size as to pick up a single seed from the outlet of a hopper (not shown). The seeds are carried round by the drum and are released as each solenoid reaches the bottom dead-centre position, the electrical connections being automatically interrupted at this point. The seeds then fall into a sowing shoot.
