Abstract
620,295. Automatic change-speed gearing. SOC. FRANCOIS CONTE. March 2, 1940, No. 10768/47. Convention date, March 29, 1939. Divided out of and addition to 616,873. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] The automatic change-speed gear of the parent Specification is 'provided with -a safety device effective on over-run and comprising means for engaging the lowest gear ratio and/or braking the output shaft. As shown, the torque screw 20 now acts through an auxiliary flange 57 on the main transmission shaft t to move it to the left to engage lower gear ratios and linked levers 51, 54 are provided operative, when a stop 56 is pivoted clear of the lever 51, to move the flange 57 to the left as the torque screw 20 moves to the right under over-running action. The movement of the lever 54 also operates, through a linkage 59 and a cam 67, an expanding brake band 62 co-acting with a brake drum 63 on the output shaft 24.
