Abstract

617,759. Crossings. GORDON, S. H. Nov. 5, 1946, No. 32832. [Class 104 (i)] A rail crossing has a solid vee point 15 welded to the co-terminous ends 14 of the divergent rails 10, 11 interengaging faces in a plane bisecting the angle of the crossing. To provide a greater thickness of rail web and base at the joint 14, the rails 10, 11 are slightly bent outwards at 16 and their heads are machined from 16 to the joint. The point 15 is united by electric resistance flash-butt welding, and is machined from an alloy steel having greater strength than the rails 10, 11.
