Abstract

617,248. Magnetrons. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Nov. 1, 1945, No. 29066. Convention date, May 29, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] A magnetron comprises an anode block 10, Fig. 1, having a plurality of cavity resonators 11 therein which open into a central chamber, a cold secondary emissive cathode 13 extending through the chamber, a primary thermionic cathode 16 outside the chamber, and a grid 19 for controlling the primary electron flow. The cold cathode 13 is of silver-magnesium alloy and is coated with secondary emissive material ; it is air or water-cooled, being formed as a hollow tube sealed at either end through glass or ceramic cups 22, 23. The thermionic cathode is annular and the grid 16 is in the form of a spiral, Fig. 2 (not shown) ; a disc 15 is mounted on the cold cathode 13. Specifications 588,186, 590,549, and 613,809 are referred to.
