Abstract
616,826. Automatic regulation; transformers. BUILDER, G. April 16, 1946, No. 11701. Convention date, April 17, 1945. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv)] In a voltage regulator comprising an unsaturated transformer and a saturated transformer associated with a capacity or filter, the two primary windings being in series, shelltype transformer cores are employed having part of the core common to both transformers. This provides a more compact arrangement than the use of separate transformers. A core of the shape shown in Fig. 2 may have one pair of windings in the windows 26 and the other pair in windows 16, the yoke 23 of the two cores being common and'providing two transformers 27, 17. Such a core may be made from laminations of the shape shown in Fig. 2a, the laminations being cut along the line 20 and the strip from the window 29 being used to form the common yoke section. If an air-gap is required in the magnetic circuit of transformer 17, Fig. 2, it may conveniently be located between the ends of the limbs and the common yoke. In a regulator in which an inductance is connected in the secondary circuit of the saturated transformer, the core of the inductance may be similarly incorporated in the assembly, see Fig. 3 (not shown). A suitable lamination for use in this arrangement is described with reference to Fig. 3a (not shown).
