Abstract

614,814. Incandescent lamps. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Aug. 1, 1946, No. 22929. Convention date, Oct. 6, 1942. [Class 39 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] An incandescent lamp comprises a single fuse in series with the filament and housed in a closely surrounding closed tube, the fuse being in intimate contact with a quantity of material which can produce a vapour and extinguish an arc. The fuse element 13 may be of constantan wire, straight or coiled, and is preferably coated with molybdenum oxide or zinc sulphide with the aid of an inert binder producing no permanent vapour, such as ethyl silicate in alcohol. The leading in wires have copper portions attached to the cap, copper sheathed portions in the pinch and nickel portions secured to the filament. The fuse wire connects the first named portions in one lead and the adjacent lead portions are fused into the ends of a small glass tube 14. The coating process is described.
