Abstract

The safe ironing temperature of fabrics composed of filaments or fibres having a basis of a non-thermoplastic organic material is raised by impregnating the fabric with boric acid and then subjecting it to a hot calendering, hot mangling or decatising treatment. The fabric is impregnated with an aqueous solution of boric acid at room or higher temperature, dried and then subjected to one of the specified heat treatments at a temperature of 90 DEG to 150 DEG C. The process is applicable to fabrics of cotton, wool, regenerated cellulose made by the viscose process or regenerated cellulose obtained by the complete saponification of cellulose acetate or other cellulose ester.
