Abstract
612,686. Rotary-wing aircraft. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., and HAFNER, R. May 30, 1946, No. 16483. [Class 4] A sustaining rotor comprises two or more flapping blades and a stop member common to at least a pair of blades to limit their downward movement, and is characterised in that on its engagement by other than all the blades to which it is common it is displaced to allow the blades to move downwardly, and upon engagement by all the blades it is not so displaced and limits the downward movement of the blades. In the form shown, in which the blades 12 are mounted on drag and flapping bearings 15, 14, the stop member comprises a ring 17 connected to a conical flange 16 on the rotor hub by resilient means, such as a rubber ring 1'8 bonded to both members. Each blade carries a lug 19 on its under side, and if any lug contacts the ring 17 in flight, the latter is displaced and does not prevent downward flapping movement of the associated blade. Simultaneous contact by all the lugs; however, does not cause'displacement of the member 17, and the blades are held clear of the fuselage. Stops 20, 21 are also provided to limit upward flapping movement of the blades.
