Abstract

612,393. Metal-working presses. SEDGWICK, C. H., and SEDGWICK, E. B. May 24, 1946, No. 15856. [Class 83 (iv)] A bending or forming press comprises a power operated upper beam and lower beam carried on relatively movable wedges for adjustment of the initial setting between the beams, the wedges being mounted in rockers with arcuate surfaces to compensate for misalignment between the wedges and the lower beam under load. The lower beam 3 has feet 4, 5 resting on wedges 6, 7 having horizontal lower faces resting on gun-metal rockers 8, 9 having arcuate lower surfaces which rest on corresponding arcuate mountings. A screw 10 having left and right hand threaded portions engages nuts 14, 15 secured to the wedges by locking pegs so that the wedges may be moved together or apart by turning the shaft in either direction by a motor 11 or by a handwheel. In order initially to adjust the beam the locking pegs may be removed and the nuts turned on the screw. One of the wedges carries means for operating an indicator showing the height setting of the lower beam.
